The Board Sport Celebration Continues
Cagayan de Oro’s leading resort hotel, Apple Tree Resort & Hotel, in partnership with CHOOSE Philippines (ABS-CBN’s Travel Insider), Engineer Danilo Daroy, Business Week Mindanao, and Mindanao Daily News, with the full support of the Department of Tourism Region 10, organized a skim boarding event dubbed as “SHORE BREAKS 2: A Skim-boarding Competition” last May 22, 2016. The contest was held at the shore line of the said resort hotel.
Officially launched last May 16, 2015, Shore Breaks 2 was “formulated to promote the sport to Northern Mindanao and provides opportunities for the youth to actively engage in programs and activities upholding the quality of life”. This was according to Mr. Clement Dampal II, the Marketing and PR Officer of Apple Tree and the Project Director of the event. Dampal is recognized as the person responsible for coming up with the name of the competition.
This year’s Shore Breaks competition was bigger and better. “Shore Breaks is considered the biggest skim boarding event in Northern Mindanao, where skim boarders of all ages, from beginners to professionals, from different municipalities in Northern Mindanao gathered,” revealed Ms. Bjanesha M. Emphasis, Apple Tree Resort Hotel’s General Manager.
Shore Breaks 2 started at 7am and closed with a program at 6pm. It was hosted by Mr. Steve Norman Ebonia, an award winning skim boarder and surfer. The competition was divided into two different categories: the Kid Category for skim boarders 7 to 15 years of age, and the Adult Open Category for skim boarders 16 years old and above.
The Adult Open Category champion recieved Php5,000, while the Kid Category winner was rewarded with a cash prize worth Php3,000. All winners also received a customized Body-filler Skim Board, roundtrip boat fare (CGY-CEB-CGY) good for two persons, certificate of participation, an overnight Lanai accommodation with breakfast good for two persons and access to the infinity and sea horse-shaped pools at ATHR, gift packs, and, for the adult category champion, t-shirts.
For the Adult Open Category winner, the reward was Php3,000; while Php2000 was awarded to the Kid Category first placer. Each announced first placer also received a customized plaque, certificate of participation, an overnight deluxe superior accommodation with breakfast good for two persons and access to the infinity and sea horse-shaped pools at ATRH, gift packs, and t-shirts (for the Adult Category first placer).
The Adult Category second placer received Php2,000.00; while the Kid Category second place winner received Php1,000. Each announced second placer was also awarded a customized plaque, certificate of participation, an overnight lanai accommodation with breakfast good for two persons and access to the infinity and sea horse-shaped pools, and gift packs. The Adult Category second placer also received t-shirts.
Non-winning participants were given tickets good for two persons to the infinity and sea horse-shaped pools of Apple Tree Resort Hotel.
