It started raining in Cagayan de Oro around mid-Friday, December 16. By dawn, it poured its wrath on the city and many found themselves on the roof of their homes, while others were stranded on the way home. When the storm ended, many Kagay-anons were left dead, some have yet to be found and thousands of others lost their homes. For a city that’s supposed to be rarely hit by storms, this is the worst devastation one can ever imagine – even worst than the 2009 flash floods that also saw some parts of the city underwater.
Here are some photos taken from the FB pages of my friends. Let the images speak and touch your hearts. I lived in Quezon City for many years and experienced some of the most horrifying typhoons, but never did I imagine for once that I’d see these images in my hometown.
I’ll be posting some links for those who want to help out after the photos. Please find it in your heart to share whatever you can. Although it will not make this the best Christmas for the victims, your help will let them know that someone cares for them; that someone has them in their heart in this season of love and giving.

It is so heart-wrenching seeing these images. I am very grateful my family and home are spared, praise the Lord. But my heart goes out to the victims of this tragedy that has struck my beloved hometown and its people. God, I pray for healing, that you help the victims and their bereaved families to stand up again; that solidarity be in all of us.
Hi, Rae…it is heart-wrenching. But it’s good to hear your family’s all right. I am thankful, too, that our family – our whole subdivision – was spared as we live in high lands. Watching the news on ANC, though, really made me cry. Let’s keep praying for all the victims and their families. Let’s help in whatever way we can.
