SPIT (Silly People’s Improv Theater) Manila is the country’s longest-running improv act. Earlier this year, they turned 24. Yes, that’s how long they’ve been entertaining people with unscripted, completely spontaneous acts.
I discovered SPIT about three (or four?) years ago. I initially browsed through their page after seeing an ad for an improv workshop. That’s how I started watching videos of their performances. I got hooked after watching around two or three videos. Then I fell into a rabbit hole and spent the entire evening just watching their videos. I find their kind of entertainment refreshing – because everything’s so spur-of-the-moment, so real.

So when they did a show here in CDO last year, I saved up so I could watch. I didn’t mind spending on the ticket because I really wanted to see them perform live – and I am glad I did. That turned out to be one of my most memorable experiences of 2025 (and I watched the show alone!). I also had the chance to watch them again during their mall show at Ayala Centrio a few months after their Rodelsa Hall show. Each one was unique – the spontaneous skits, the interactive segments, and the wit and creativity. Even though I was quite familiar with most of their acts by that time, it was a completely new experience watching them do everything live, just a few feet away from me.
I also loved the audience in both shows. Everyone was so game, so ready to give suggestions. Everyone laughed out loud like they had no cares in the world. It was such a beautiful thing to be a part of.
4 Reasons Why a SPIT Show is Worth Your Time and Money
If you’ve been watching their videos on FB for some time now, it’s time to level up and watch them live. If you’ve just started following SPIT, then watching them live is the best way to get to know them better. Tickets can be a bit pricey, I know. But I guarantee you that it’s a good investment. It’s something you won’t regret spending your time and money on.
If you can afford to spend PhP200-PhP300 every week on your favorite coffee or milk tea, then you can afford SPIT’s show tickets. If you can afford to buy a new dress or a pair of shoes every payday – just because – then you can afford to buy a ticket for a SPIT show. If you can afford to eat at Jollibee or McDonald’s once or twice a week, you can afford a SPIT show ticket.
Buying a ticket to a SPIT show is a good investment. Consider it a “me-time” gift to yourself – because every SPIT show will help you relax and recharge by laughing out loud. Forget the spa or the salon; an improv show is the best stress reliever.
Here are four of the most important reasons why watching a SPIT show is worth your time and money:
1. It is a totally UNSCRIPTED show.
Every skit, every scene, every joke, and even the characters are created on the spot, using prompts and suggestions from the audience. Everything is spontaneous, even the punchlines – especially the punchlines! SPIT shows are similar to fresh, farm-to-table food – 100% natural entertainment, raw and unfiltered.
2. It involves the AUDIENCE.
Every SPIT show involves the audience. Audience interaction is a significant part of every act. The SPIT cast will ask you for names and ideas, local words or references, and you’ll find yourself happily shouting your suggestions along with everyone else. So when you go to a SPIT show, you’re not just going to sit, watch, and laugh; you’re actually going to help the cast create a scene or story. You become a part of the show.
3. It is a powerful showcase of QUICK-WITTED, INTELLIGENT humor.
SPIT is composed of veteran improv performers who have been doing shows for years, both here in the Philippines and on international stages. Several of them also regularly facilitate and teach improv classes/workshops. They are regarded as royalty in the improv scene here in the country.
4. It is RELATABLE and RELEVANT.
Every show is designed to cater to a specific audience. For their shows in CDO last year, SPIT used local references, including trending questions such as “Naapil ka sa lista?” So when they executed the scene, we were all laughing our hearts out because we could relate to their comedy – they used words and phrases that we suggested. “Naapil ka sa lista?” is something that every Kagay-anon knew because it pertains to a particular politically related situation in the city. So it’s also timely and relevant. That’s hitting two birds with one stone.
Everything that you see in a SPIT show is real. Whatever happens during a show is unplanned. You don’t get a lot of shows like that nowadays. For me, that’s the best return on an investment.
